Daniel Smith

Undergraduate researcher (2026.01 - )

My name is Daniel Smith and I am a junior undergraduate student studying biology at the University of Iowa. I am from Acton, Massachusetts and in my free time I like to read, play video games, and watch TV/sports with my friends.

I joined the GRE Lab as an undergraduate researcher in March 2026. My research focuses on examining the phosphate starvation pathway for various strains of Candida Glabrata. I feel very grateful for this opportunity as the other members have made this a very welcoming environment. Through attending lab meetings and journal clubs, I have been able to learn from my peers and develop my own skills in analyzing research papers and expand my knowledge of different regulatory elements in various species of yeast.
