My goal as a PI is to build a small team of curious and dedicated researchers. As a mentor, my philosophy is to work closely with the members to help achieve each person’s potential while making novel discoveries.
I welcome prospective graduate students (either MS and PhD) and undergraduate students interested in getting into research to contact me. Prior experience with microbiology genetics, R programming and genomics experiments are desirable but not required. As long as you are interested in what we are doing, and serious about doing reproducible science, you are in!
Here are my general expectations for lab members and what you can expect of me.
Undergraduate students
We welcome any undergraduate student interested in our research to join our weekly lab meetings. The current schedule and location of the lab meeting can be found here.
To learn about the process of joining the lab and expectations for undergraduate student members, please see GRE Lab Undergraduate Research Expectations.
Graduate students
I’m affiliated with the iBio graduate program in the Biology Department and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics at the University of Iowa. Please check their respective website for details on requirements and application deadlines. Contacts about research interests are welcome.
Research technician
Both current undergraduate students seeking to work/study or for research credits, and recently graduated college/master students looking for more research experiences, are encouraged to directly contact me via email (bin-he # uiowa.edu). Please send a 1-page statement of research interests, CV and contact information for three references.
Postdoctoral researcher
Recent PhDs trained in relevant fields (evolutionary genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry for gene regulation, microbiology, etc.) are welcome to contact Bin with email to inquire about postdoc positions.
